Are you planning to buy a new Apple silicone computer? Whether it’s the original M1, the M1 Pro, or the M1 Max, there are quite a few things you need to consider before buying one. Let’s take a look at how to choose a Mac.
Cost is most likely at the top of your list. But that doesn’t mean that cost is the overriding factor for everyone. There are a variety of things that different people will want to analyze. Examples are whether the purchase is for business or personal, are you concerned with form factor, or maybe you need to know how many ports there are.
What should you know about how to choose a Mac.
First, we’ll look at the different form factors and their relative pros and cons. But that is not all. You also need to know about performance. All of the M1 machines offer fantastic performance. Other considerations are which specs you should consider. How much RAM do you need? What size SSD should you choose? And, of course, the design is essential.
To begin with, we’re going to talk about the different M1 chips. On a chip, you have a central processor with two different types of cores, high performance and high efficiency,
Your choice for handling everyday tasks is efficiency cores which are not as powerful as high performance, but they give you long-life battery power. Also, on the chip, you’ll find a GPU or graphics processor that handles your displays.
On the other hand, the high performance gives you real computer power when you need it. The performance chip is also called a Graphics Processor (GPU) and handles graphic design, video editing, and gaming. There’s also a group of machine learning courses, which software developers can use to provide artificial intelligence (AI) enhancements to things like detecting text and faces in images.
In addition, we have individual accelerators for decoding and encoding video streams for enhancing images, handling audio, and taking care of security tasks.
The M1 and Unified Memory
The M1 has a lot going on. These processes and accelerators have shared access to the system memory, something Apple calls unified memory. But M1 also features an SSD controller for these machines’ high-speed solid-state storage chips.
The fantastic performance in the M1 is another benefit we see with these new Apple Macs. You need to know, however, that there are no upgrades. The M1 chip, the system memory, and the SSD are all soldered to the motherboard. That’s why it’s critical you get the right spec upfront.
Significant Advantages of the M1s
There are three models, the M1, the M1 Pro, and the M1 Max. The Apple silicon M1s have a gorgeous design. The Apple silicon M1s feature an aluminum body that makes it look elegant. The laptop has a silver color option, but the company also has a gold-colored version available. The M1s are easy to carry anywhere and give you a premium feel.
The Apple silicon M2s Laptop comes with a 15.4-inch display The 15.4-inch display of the laptop makes it easy to use basic Windows programs. You can also watch movies and play games on the laptop. Just recently, Apple came out with the silicon M1 Ultra.
And just four days ago, Tom’s Guide let us know, “A new report says that Apple is testing the new M2 chip inside at least 9 new Mac models, including the new MacBook Air.”
Disadvantages of the M1s
Unfortunately, the keyboard of the laptop is not durable. The keys of the Apple silicon M1 laptop are made from a plastic material. This makes the laptop susceptible to damage easily. It can be damaged if you drop it from a height or spill liquids on it. Additionally, you cannot transfer files to the device using an SD card as the M1s do not come with an SD card reader. You won’t be able to transfer files to the device.
The Apple silicon M1s are powerful laptops. That means they will use more electricity. Furthermore, the Apple silicon M1s are not compatible with Linux. If you want to use Linux, you need to use Windows.
We gave you a basic overview of the M1, M1 Pro, and the M1 Max. In our next article, we will go into configurations, form factors and compare the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro 13 inch with touch bar.
