Four Simple Steps to Organize Your iPad

October 23, 2025 11:41 am Published by Leave your thoughts

Every day, I help people who walk in frustrated with their cluttered iPads. They’ve watched those overwhelming “50 iPad tricks” videos and feel more confused than when they started. Here’s what I actually recommend—four simple changes that make the biggest difference.

Step 1: Clear Your Home Screen

Most people never touch half the apps Apple puts on their home screen. Instead of staring at clutter, move unused apps to the App Library (hold and drag them there). Remove the default widgets too.

The result? A clean slate where you can actually find things. Use Spotlight search (swipe down and type)

Step 2: Streamline Control Center

Control Center is that menu packed with buttons you’ll never use. Here’s how to clean it up:

To open Control Center: Put your finger at the very top-right corner of your iPad screen and swipe down. You’ll see a gray panel with various controls.

To customize it:

1. Go to Settings (the gray gear icon)

2. Scroll down and tap “Control Center”

3. You’ll see two lists: “Included Controls” and “More Controls”

4. Tap the red minus (-) button next to anything you don’t use

5. Keep the essentials: brightness, volume, Dark Mode, and Focus Mode

6. Add back only what you actually need by tapping the green plus (+) button

The goal isn’t to copy my setup—it’s to make yours work for you.

Step 3: Load Your Dock with Daily Apps

Your Dock (bottom strip) is the key to multitasking. Apps there can be dragged up for Split Screen—apps buried elsewhere can’t.

Put your most-used apps in the Dock: Notes, Calendar, Mail, Safari, whatever you use daily. Turn off “recent apps” to keep it clean. Think about what you reach for every single day.

 Step 4: Add Strategic Widgets

What’s a widget? Those rectangular boxes that show live information—like today’s weather or your next appointment—without opening an app.

The right widgets save you time by showing information at a glance. I recommend Weather, Calendar, and Reminders on your home screen.

To add widgets:

1. Hold your finger on an empty area of your home screen until the apps start wiggling

2. Tap the “+” button in the top-left corner

3. Scroll through the list and tap the app you want (like Weather)

4. Choose the size you prefer and tap “Add Widget”

5. Drag it where you want it and tap “Done”

You can stack multiple widgets in one spot—like weather for different cities—and swipe between them.

 The Reality Check

You don’t need complicated systems or dozens of tweaks. These four steps transform how people use their iPads because they’re based on real habits, not tech blog fantasies.

The best organized iPad is the one that gets out of your way and lets you focus on what actually matters.
