Basic Use
1. **Open Safari **: Tap the Safari icon on your home screen or App Library to launch the browser.
2. **Navigate to a Website**: Tap the address bar at the top, enter a website’s address, and press “Go”.
3. **Bookmark a Page **: To bookmark a page, tap the share icon (the rectangle with an arrow pointing upward) and select “Add Bookmark”. Choose where to save it and rename it if you like.
4. **Open a New Tab **: To browse multiple sites at once, tap the “+” icon next to your current tab. Switch between tabs by tapping them.
5. **Private Browsing**: To not record your browsing history, tap the tabs icon (looks like two squares) and select “Private”, then tap “+” to open a private tab.
Expert Tips
1. **Gesture Navigation**: Use gestures to enhance your browsing. Swipe left or right with two fingers to go back or forward through your browsing history.
2. **Split View **: Use two Safari windows side by side. Open Safari, drag the tab slightly down to reveal the window’s border, then tap and hold the tab and drag it to the right or left edge of your screen. Release to open a new window next to it.
3. **Use Reader Mode**: For a cleaner reading experience without ads or pop-ups, tap the AA icon on the left of the address bar and select “Show Reader View”. You can customize the background color, font, and font size here.
4. **Quick Website Search**: If you frequently search a specific website, Safari can remember and enable a shortcut. After searching a site like Wikipedia a few times, you can then type “Wiki” followed by your search term in the address bar to search Wikipedia directly.
5. **Add to Home Screen**: If there’s a website you visit often, you can add it directly to your home screen. Tap the share icon and select “Add to Home Screen”. This creates an icon on your home screen for quick access.
6. **Save PDF to Books**: When you find a web page you want to keep, convert it into a PDF by tapping the share icon and selecting “Save PDF to Books”. This is great for saving articles, recipes, or information pages.
7. **Customize Your Start Page**: Customize what you see when you open a new tab or window. Tap the settings icon at the bottom of a new tab, then tap “Edit” to choose features like Favorites, Frequently Visited, Privacy Report, and more.
8. **Use Siri Suggestions**: Siri can suggest frequently visited sites, links sent through Messages, or even your reading list. This appears below the search bar as you type, making it easier to find what you’re looking for without typing the entire URL.
By incorporating these tips, you can navigate Safari on your iPad like a pro, making your browsing experience more enjoyable and efficient. Remember, the key to mastering Safari is exploring and customizing it to fit your browsing habits and preferences.
